The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act defines Wild River Areas as:
Those rivers or sections of rivers that are free of impoundments and generally inaccessible except by trail, with watersheds or shorelines essentially primitive and waters unpolluted. These represent vestiges of primitive America.No one can argue this rugged stretch of the Chetco isn't a "Wild" River in every way.

It's not too many places today that you get to have a true adventure. The Earth is so tracked and traveled, it's rare to have a place, especially in our own state of Oregon, where very few people go.There are no roads. Not even a trail follows the river. It was obviously hard work, but worth it.
Most of us will never see this reach of the Chetco, but knowing there are remote wild places like it is rewarding in itself—especially when the adventurous bring some of the wildness back to share with the rest of us.
